The mission of Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital is to rescue, repair, rehabilitate and release sick, injured and orphaned Australian native animals. Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital is an emergency wildlife hospital operating 24 hours a day – 365 days per year, which admits more than 10,000 sick, injured and orphaned native animals annually.

The hospital seeks to provide gold standard care for native wildlife. It does so by continuously improving, researching and also developing new and innovative solutions for treating the large variety of species and problems that are seen daily. The hospital plays a significant role in educating visitors & influencing change in people’s behaviour assisting with conservation worldwide.

As a Receptionist, you will  have the primary responsibility of answering phone calls, assisting members of the public or carers when entering the area and assisting with the coordination of  medical treatment and care of sick, injured, and orphaned wild animals within the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital.  This role reports directly to the Office Manager and Hospital Manager.

Duties Include: 

  • Monitor the phones and answer all wildlife calls.
  • Assist with scheduling appointments for local and interstate Wildlife rehabilitators and carers.
  • Assist with admitting emergency patients by  liaising with Triage Nurse for admittance.
  • Assist with entering and updating Wildlife Accession data entry and koala records.
  • Assist with Donations – Response/Thank you letters for Donated Equip/Consumables.
  • Assist with monthly reports for Wildlife rehabilitators to obtain final outcomes on animals.
  • Assist with updating the animal intake database.
  • Updating wildlife carer permits and status in the Accession database.
  • Complete customer counter sales and cash reconciliation.
  • Other duties as requested by the Office Manager or Hospital Manager.

Essential Criteria: 

  • Experience within a similar role or background.
  • Drivers Licence and reliable transport.
  • Available to work weekends, public holidays, and school holiday periods.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Organisational & time management skills.
